Good Night to be a Brave

On the night Pete Alonso won the Major League Baseball Home Run Derby, his old Cape League team did him proud.

The Bourne Braves had their best offensive night of the season in a 14-0 blowout of Falmouth. The win snapped a three-game slide.

The Braves weren’t as homer-happy as Alonso, but their one blast was a big one. Jackson Greer (East Tennessee State) hit a grand slam in the eighth inning that put the finishing touches on the win.

Jared Poland (Louisville) added two hits and three RBI. Cody Morissette (Boston College) and Jimmy Glowenke (Dallas Baptist) drove in two runs each.

As good as the offense was, the Braves had the pitching to match. Mac Lardner (Gonzaga) struck out and allowed just two hits in seven scoreless innings. Karl Johnson (UConn) finished off the shutout.

Chatham 6, Orleans 1

The first player in from Vanderbilt’s national championship squad, Cooper Davis, joined Chatham and went 3-for-5 in the leadoff spot as the Anglers beat Orleans again. Kaden Polcovich (Northwest Florida) added two RBI for the Anglers, and four other players drove in one run each. Parker Scott (Oklahoma State) was fantastic on the mound, striking out nine in seven shutout innings. Chatham now leads the East by two games, and their performances against Orleans have certainly helped the cause. The Anglers are 3-0 against the Firebirds.

Cotuit 11, Wareham 5

Cotuit is back in first place in the ever-changing West standings after a win over Wareham. Cotuit had 14 hits and Wareham had 12, but the Kettleers had a little more power behind theirs, blasting two home runs and six extra-base hits. Casey Schmitt (San Diego State) and Parker Chavers (Coastal Carolina) both went deep for their fourth home runs of the summer, with Schmitt going 3-for-5 and driving in five runs. Mason McWhorter (Georgia Southern) had two doubles and three RBI. Nick Gonzales (New Mexico State) drove in two runs. Matt Moore (Purdue) was the only pitcher on either side to toss a scoreless outing and earned the win.

Harwich 4, Y-D 2

The Mariners won for the third time in four games. Jordan Butler (Florida) and Nick Stewart (James Madison) teamed up for a strong pitching performance, each allowing one run in their stints. Chris Lanzilli (Wake Forest) led the Harwich offense with two RBI.

What to Watch

Chatham will try for more East dominance as it visits Harwich.
